BLOG POST #4

1. Reflect on your early course experiences in Twitter. With whom have you been interacting and how have you found it beneficial?  How might Twitter be helpful in your future career?
  • So far, I have been interacting with multiple individuals whom I share similar educational views with. It’s amazing to come together and talk about how we can improve the school system/educational system. There are many issues that can easily be solved if we all work together, plan, and put our plans into actions. This is very beneficial to me because it gives me ideas on what types of programs I want to start in the future to improve the child success rate. Twitter may be helpful in my future career. For instance, when I want to meet/ interact with other educators or share my academics/knowledge with them and vice versa.

2. How does the digital divide (podcast) affect student success in schools? What are some causes of the digital divide?  Reflect on what you may experience as a classroom teacher and how this will affect your teaching strategies.
  • It takes away their ability to complete all their work and to inform themselves of what’s going on outside the classroom. Low income is the main cause because without the necessary funds, how can you afford these things? Honestly, even though technology is advancing more and more each day and is used inside and outside almost every classroom setting I wouldn’t assign work to do at home that has anything to do with the internet because I know for a fact that it’ll probably be some students in the classroom who don’t have access to internet. Yet, I can create ways to provide access to them by doing fundraisers etc.

3. Which types of student software do you expect to use the most and which the least?  Why?  Frame your response with a specific grade level and/or subject area.  (Reference chapter 8).
  • The types of student software that I expect to use the most are educational games and simulations. “Games present content in a format that engages the learner while providing practice, and simulations provide students an opportunity to interact safely with model environments and experiences to promote discovery learning.” In other words, kindergarten students tend to react/learn more when learning is fun.
  • The types of student software that I expect to use the least is reference software. Mainly because it’s not familiar to me and honestly it doesn’t seem necessary in my teaching career.
